HISTORY OF ESSEX LASALLIANS

In 1999, a handful of parents whose sons were studying in St Michael’s School decided to form a football team with the intention of fostering a closer bond between fathers and sons.

The name Essex Lasallians was derived from Essex Road, (where the school is located) and old boys of Lasallian schools (St Joseph’s Institution and St Patrick’s School) Today, the team comprises 31 soccer diehards from business executives to doctors and pilots. They play their football every Sunday at their home ground, the Catholic Junior College.

Although Essex Lasallians has a youth team made up of the members’ sons, the core team remains very much a veteran affair with at least 23 members over 50 years of age.

Over the years, Essex has gained a reputation as a credible veteran side and is a regular feature in the Penang Sports Club International 7s, the Royal Selangor Club International 7s and the Singapore 9s.

OUR BELIEFS

The LaSallian Brothers arrived in Singapore in the 1850s to provide educational and spiritual guidance to the needy. This selfless spirit continues to be the cornerstone of our beliefs, through the participation of sports.

Hence the creation of the LaSallian Award. A monetary award to deserving students who excel in sports and embrace the LaSallian spirit. Thanks to the founding members who first came together to seek companionship and fellowship in their unique and challenging journey as fathers, this spirit is now shared by more than just former students of LaSallian schools.

Today its members come from different alma maters, and of different creed and colour.

OUR LOGO

The logo is a cross, made up of the words 'Essex' and 'Lasallians' in a horizontal and vertical axis. The cross represents the unique Lasallian spirit.

The letter “S” from both words meets at the centre of the cross within a soccer ball. This represents the core activity of Essex Lasallians.

The logo is in green which is the colour of life, freedom, hope and peace.
